3 Million AT Subscribers Migrated to Telecel as Government Appoints Transaction Advisor – Sam George

JHNews || Government has announced emergency measures to safeguard the services of over three million Airtel Ghana Limited (AT) subscribers after American Towers Corporation (ATC) disconnected AT’s network sites on 1st September 2025 over unpaid debts.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) swiftly intervened by directing AT and Telecel to establish national roaming, allowing AT’s traffic to be migrated onto Telecel’s infrastructure. This arrangement ensures uninterrupted access to voice, SMS, data, and AT Money services for customers.

To chart a sustainable path for AT, the government has appointed global accounting firm KPMG as a transaction advisor with a 60-day mandate. The firm is expected to review AT’s debt profile, evaluate government’s shareholding interest in Telecel Ghana, and recommend strategies to create a competitive second operator in the telecom sector.

Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George further assured AT staff of job security, stressing that no merger or acquisition decision has been made. Such considerations, he said, will only follow after KPMG submits its findings.

The Minister urged subscribers, creditors, and stakeholders to remain calm as government works to stabilize the situation.
