Vetting Woes: Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim’s Responses Raise Red Flags, Says Minister Isaac

The vetting of Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim today, has left me wondering if he is the right fit for the role of Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. His responses during the vetting process raised several red flags, casting doubt on his ability to effectively occupy the portfolio.

It is undeniable fact that the Member of Parliament representing the Banda constituency, Hon. Ibrahim has experience in governance. However, his lack of depth and clarity on critical issues related to local government, chieftaincy, and religious affairs is alarming. His proposed approach to revenue mobilization for the various assemblies is particularly concerning. Relying on service personnel for revenue mobilization is not only unorthodox but also laughable. This approach demonstrates a clear lack of understanding of the complex issues surrounding local government financing.

His performance at the vetting today raises a great concerns about his capacity to effectively engage with stakeholders, including traditional leaders, religious groups and local government officials. His lack of familiarity with key policies and initiatives in these areas is particularly worrisome, given the critical role that this ministry plays in promoting national cohesion and development.

Currently, as a country, we continue to face complex development challenges and hence, we need a Minister who is not only familiar with the intricacies of local government, chieftaincy and religious affairs but also possesses the vision, leadership and technical expertise to drive meaningful change in that portfolio. Unfortunately, Hon. Ibrahim's performance today, suggests that he may not be up to the task.
