MINORITY CRITICIZES OPULENT DISPLAY, CALL FOR SUSPENSION OF GOLDBOD CEO.
The Minority in Parliament is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action against the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, following a viral video showing him giving out dollars to Evangelist Patricia Koranteng, widely known as Nana Agradaa.
The footage has sparked widespread public backlash, prompting an apology from Sammy Gyamfi.
Speaking to the media in parliament on behalf of the minority in the House, MP for Walewale Hon. Dr. Tia Abdul Kabiru Mahama and members of the Minority believe the apology is insufficient and are urging amongst other things the sanctioning of Sammy Gyamfi and a full blown inquiry into the matter.
They also believe the gesture breaches the President John Dramani Mahama's recently launched Code of Conduct and undermines his commitment to integrity in public office.
The minority in the House further stated that the act also violates Section 3(1) of the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 273), which stipulates: A person shall not engage in the business of dealing in foreign exchange unless authorised under this Act.
As a result, they are demanding immediate sanctions against Mr Gyamfi, as well as a public apology from President Mahama and a full scale investigation launched into the source of the dollars Sammy Gyamfi gifted Agradaa.
