Tension in NPP: General Secretary Threatens NPP UK Chairman at National Council Meeting

A dramatic scene unfolded at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Council meeting on January 2, 2025, when the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, reportedly threatened the NPP UK Chairman, popularly known as Wofa K. The incident, which took place in the presence of key party figures, has raised serious concerns about internal tensions within the party following its electoral defeat.

According to eyewitnesses, while members of the council were exchanging pleasantries, Wofa K approached Kodua Frimpong to greet him. However, instead of a warm response, he was met with hostility. The General Secretary is alleged to have told him:

“I will deal with you! I will let you know that I’m the General Secretary of the Party. I will make sure you are our out of position as NPP UK Chairman and also vehemently deal with you!”

The outburst reportedly caused unrest among those present, as many were left questioning the reason behind such aggression from the party’s chief scribe.

The Background to the Feud

This confrontation did not happen in isolation. Observers believe it is linked to a recent video that surfaced, in which Wofa K openly criticized the party’s leadership over the poor distribution of resources for the 2024 election campaign.

In the viral video, the UK Chairman accused the General Secretary of ignoring important phone calls, even when they were crucial to the party’s success. He further lamented that despite the UK Branch’s donation of two pick-up vehicles to support the campaign, they were not provided with a single car for their own operations.

Many believe Justin Kodua Frimpong saw these remarks as an attack on his leadership and used the National Council meeting as an opportunity for retaliation. His aggressive posture at the gathering is now being interpreted as an act of vengeance following the party’s painful loss in the 2024 general elections.

A Party in Crisis?

The NPP, which recently lost power to the opposition, is already facing internal cracks and blame games over what led to its defeat. The incident at the National Council meeting only adds to growing concerns about a lack of unity within the party’s leadership at a time when reorganization is crucial.

Supporters of Wofa K have condemned the General Secretary’s conduct, calling it undemocratic and vindictive. Others believe this could be an attempt to suppress dissenting voices within the party.

As the NPP navigates its future in opposition, this public altercation raises an important question: Is the party ready to heal and rebuild, or will internal conflicts deepen the cracks even further?
