 Dramani Mahama has called for an immediate investigation into the tragic deaths of up to eight individuals, reportedly illegal miners, following a violent clash at a mining site in Obuasi.

The government, in an official statement, expressed deep regret over the loss of lives and emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice. The President directed authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and hold any individuals found guilty of unlawful actions accountable.

In addition, the management of AngloGold Ashanti has been instructed to bear the full medical expenses of the injured and facilitate burial arrangements for the deceased.

To prevent further incidents, security agencies have been tasked with restoring peace in the area and implementing measures to avert similar occurrences in the future.

The government’s swift response underscores its dedication to addressing safety and security concerns in the country’s mining sector.
