I am Disappointed in President Mahama, Blame Death of Citizens of Obuasi Solely on Him - Nana Kwadwo Akwaa

The tragic deaths of citizens in Obuasi have sparked outrage, with blame being squarely placed on President John Dramani Mahama for his alleged negligence in addressing escalating tensions. The use of live ammunition by security forces, while condemnable, is seen as a consequence of the president’s failure to curb the unlawful takeovers and attacks on public and private institutions, which many believe acted as a catalyst for the unfortunate incident.
“I am truly saddened by the loss of these citizens—individuals who held great potential for Mother Ghana,” said Nana Kwadwo Akwaa. He lamented how political leaders, including President Mahama, exploit such individuals during power struggles but later abandon them. “These are the very people often used for political vandalism, only to be discarded when their usefulness ends,” he added.
The activist expressed concern over the recent rise in undemocratic and illegal takeovers of state institutions by individuals allegedly affiliated with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). He warned that such actions would inevitably provoke innocent and law-abiding citizens to defend themselves, leading to further chaos and violence.
“President Mahama’s leniency towards these acts has contributed significantly to this tragedy. This loss of life was entirely avoidable,” Akwaa said, emphasizing the need for accountability and a change in leadership approach.
He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, expressing solidarity with them in their grief. “May the souls of these great potentials rest in peace, but the guilt of their deaths lies solely on President Mahama’s negligence,” Akwaa concluded.
The tragedy has renewed calls for the government to act decisively to prevent further unrest and ensure the safety of all citizens.
