Hon. Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor Calls for Greater Commitment to Social Justice in Ghana

Accra, February 20, 2025, Hon. Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, has made a passionate call for stronger policies and action to bridge inequalities in Ghana, as she addressed Parliament on the occasion of the World Day of Social Justice.

Speaking on the theme Empowering Inclusion, Bridging Gaps for Social Justice,Hon. Okunor underscored the urgent need for inclusive policies and social protection systems to tackle economic disparities, human rights violations, and limited access to essential services in the country.

She highlighted Ghana historical struggle for social justice, tracing it back to colonial oppression and the eventual fight for independence under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. While acknowledging progress in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment, she stressed that many Ghanaians continue to face systemic injustices.

Hon. Okunor cited rising economic hardships, unemployment, and human rights concerns, including the arrest of protestors, unresolved election-related violence, and the financial burdens brought about by the 2022 economic crisis. She called for justice for victims of election violence, particularly in Awutu Senya East, where lives were lost during the 2020 and 2024
