Prof. Seidu Mahama Alidu has been chosen as the NDC’s candidate for the Tamale Central by-election following the death of the sitting MP.

JHNews || Tamale, September 6, 2025 — Prof. Seidu Mahama Alidu has secured a resounding victory in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries for the Tamale Central by-election, polling 840 votes out of the total cast.
The contest, held following the tragic passing of the constituency’s MP in a helicopter crash, saw 12 candidates vying for the slot. Prof. Alidu’s overwhelming win places him far ahead of his closest contender, Lawyer Hanan Gundadow Abdul-Rahaman, who garnered 536 votes.
