POLICE ARREST SIX SUSPECTS FOR RITUAL MURDER AT MAFI ADIDOME

Mafi Adidome, Volta Region – July 9, 2025 – The Volta Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of Nelson Anyena, a 25-year-old mason, in what is suspected to be a ritual killing. The arrests were made at Blorkorfe and Awakpedome, both suburbs of Adidome in the Central Tongu District.

Nelson Anyena, originally from Wusuta in the South Dayi District, had moved to Mafi-Adidome to live with his wife in December 2024. On the evening of December 4, 2024, he mysteriously went missing—only for police investigations to later uncover a sinister plot.

According to the police, Augustina Fiawoyife (21), an unemployed woman and girlfriend to one of the suspects, was used as bait to lure Nelson to a secluded location under the pretext of a romantic meeting. There, he was allegedly strangled to death by Wisdom Hedidor (31), a herbalist, and Courage Bedzo alias Dzidefo (31), a Kente weaver.

Police investigations revealed that the act was commissioned by a fetish priest, Gblor Noah alias Ekpedzi (42), who had reportedly asked for a dead body in exchange for GH¢7,000. After the killing, the body was handed over to the fetish priest and buried beneath his shrine in Blorkope.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Yohannes Gblor (27), a security guard, and John Gblor (40), a lotto writer—both believed to be brothers of the fetish priest and accomplices in the ritual operation.

Acting on intelligence, the police secured an exhumation order from the Ho Magistrate Court on July 3, 2025, and on July 7, a team of crime scene experts and environmental health officers retrieved Nelson Anyena’s remains, buried beneath the shrine. Shockingly, the team discovered two additional unidentified bodies at the same location.

All three bodies were transported to the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra for autopsy and DNA profiling.

The six suspects are currently in police and prison custody and are scheduled to reappear in court on August 8, 2025.

The Volta Regional Police Command, led by Supt. Omari Mic Boakye, commended the public for their cooperation and assured the family of the deceased of a thorough investigation.

“We urge the family and community to remain calm as we pursue justice for the victims,” the police stated.

The chilling case has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about ritual crimes in parts of the country.
