Robert Redford, the celebrated actor, director, producer, and environmental advocate, has died at the age of 89. His passing was confirmed by his publicist, who said he died peacefully at his home in Utah. 

Redford’s storied career spanned six decades, during which he starred in classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and All the President’s Men. As a director, he earned acclaim for films such as Ordinary People (for which he won an Academy Award), and Quiz Show.  He also founded the Sundance Institute and helped build the Sundance Film Festival into a global platform for independent cinema. 

Beyond film, Redford was known for his environmental activism and support for filmmakers outside the mainstream, helping to nurture artistic voices through his work and through institutions he helped establish.
