According to reports, the disturbance began after some students alleged that they had discovered what they believed to be the body of a baby buried near the school’s refuse dump. The students reportedly accused the headmaster of being involved in the incident, leading to a violent confrontation. Authorities have not confirmed the allegations, and police investigations are ongoing.

The agitated students allegedly assaulted the headmaster, leaving him with multiple injuries. He was initially treated at the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital in Obuasi before being transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for specialised medical care.

During the unrest, students vandalised parts of the school, including the headmaster’s bungalow, staff residences, vehicles, and other school property, causing extensive damage. Security personnel were deployed to restore calm and prevent further violence.

In response to the incident, the Obuasi Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) ordered the indefinite closure of the school to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and other staff while investigations continue.

Police have confirmed the arrest of six students believed to have played key roles in the assault and destruction of property. The suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations. Authorities have assured the public that all aspects of the incident, including the allegations that sparked the violence, will be thoroughly investigated.
