Agyemang-Badu fears Black Stars may play to empty stands
Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has expressed his concerns about the dwindling support for the national team, fearing that if the current trend continues, they may attract fewer than ten supporters to their matches.
His comments come in the wake of the Black Stars' disappointing performance in their recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they drew 1-1 against Niger on September 9, 2024, following a 1-0 defeat to Angola just days earlier.
"A lot of people we meet individually are not interested in the Black Stars. They tell us these things," he told Asempa FM.
He highlighted the need for the team to rekindle fan interest, stating that passionate appeals have been made to encourage supporters to return to the stadium.
He pointed out that the support in Kumasi during their previous matches was fantastic, but he fears that continued poor performances could lead to a drastic decline in attendance.
"If they repeat what they are doing now, I am sure they won’t even get ten people to come and watch them," he warned.
The Black Stars currently sit third in Group F of the qualifiers, with Angola leading the group with six points and Sudan following with three points after their recent match.
The team will need to improve significantly in their next round of qualifiers against Sudan in October if they hope to secure a spot in the upcoming tournament in Morocco.
