Barcelona President Joan Laporta takes over transfer negotiation from Deco
Barcelona look set to sign Dani Olmo this week, after a €55m plus €7m in variables deal was agreed with RB Leipzig. The Euro 2024 winner has traveled to Barcelona, and despite top target Nico Williams returning to Athletic Club training, and seemingly confirming his future lies in Bilbao this summer.
However sources from the Catalan capital continue to maintain that their are still hopes of a deal for Williams in Can Barca. They will not rule out the deal for as long as Williams does not respond definitively to their offer. As per Sport, President Joan Laporta will take over negotiations from Sporting Director Deco, as a matter of state.
He will remind Williams that the chance to sign for Barcelona doesn’t always come up twice. Laporta has always been the driving force behind the Williams pursuit this summer, and but the 22-year-old will not leave Athletic with bad blood.
Information coming out of Barcelona is optimistic about the chances of the Blaugrana getting several deals over the line to ensure they can return to within their salary limit this summer. That has been the case for several months though, and without any public confirmation, it seems difficult for Barcelona to activate Williams’ €58m release clause and pay for Olmo.
