MINORITY SYMPATHIZES WITH STRIKING TEACHERS, DEMANDS URGENT ACTIONS

The Minority in Parliament has expressed sympathy with striking teachers across the country.

The Ranking Member on Parliament's Defence and Interior Committee, Hon Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, speaking with the press in parliament on behalf of the Minority Caucus said teachers have been on strike over unpaid promotion allowances and arrears dating from January, an unfinished collective agreement and an unimplemented deprived area allowance.

According to him, the last protest produced by the unions yielded no results, with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission indicating it will not meet them until October 6.

"We sympathize with our teachers, our gallant teachers. We demand urgent action because no country can expect to produce a thoroughly educated and efficient population if it cannot first look after its teachers," he said.
