Suspended Obuasi SHTS Headmaster Zakaria Abdulai Reportedly Eyes NDC Constituency Chairmanship
Zakaria Abdulai, the suspended headmaster of Obuasi SHTS, is reportedly eyeing the NDC chairmanship in the Juabeng Constituency while investigations continue into allegations involving female students.
OBUASI, October 15, 2026 — Zakaria Abdulai, the suspended headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), is reportedly preparing to contest the chairmanship of the Juabeng Constituency of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to a report by YEN.com.gh, investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni disclosed the headmaster’s political affiliation and reported ambition during an interview on Joy FM on Thursday, October 15, while discussing his latest documentary, Inside the Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow.
Manasseh reportedly said promotional posters bearing Abdulai’s image had appeared in the constituency ahead of the anticipated party election.
The report identifies Abdulai as the NDC constituency secretary for Juabeng and says the constituency delegates’ conference is expected to take place before the end of 2026.
Suspension follows serious allegations
Abdulai’s reported political ambitions come amid allegations of sexual abuse involving female students at Obuasi SHTS.
On October 13, 2026, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to suspend the headmaster pending investigations. The Ministry of Education also requested that the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service conduct a formal investigation.
The allegations have not been established as proven facts, and the investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the case.
Claims of earlier knowledge
The YEN.com.gh report also cites Manasseh as saying that the allegations had been known within the school and the surrounding community before the suspension.
The journalist reportedly referred to comments from Frederick Addai, a former NDC constituency executive, concerning how some party members allegedly handled discussions about the matter internally.
These claims have not, in the report, been established through an independent finding of wrongdoing by the party or its officials.
