Akwatia Constituency Holds Vigil for Late MP Ernest Kumi

Akwatia, July 14, 2025 – Grief and unity filled the air in Akwatia last night as hundreds of residents gathered for a solemn vigil in honour of their late Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, who passed away on July 7, 2025, after a brief illness.
The vigil, held in the heart of the constituency, drew mourners from all walks of life—young and old—who came together to pay tribute to the man many described as a “father, brother, and helper.”
Organised by the Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in collaboration with community leaders, the event featured candle lighting, songs, and emotional tributes from constituents who remembered Mr. Kumi not just as a politician, but as a selfless servant of the people.
“We cannot sit down and allow Mr. Ernest Kumi to be laid to rest quietly. He was everything to us. This vigil is our way of showing love and appreciation,” said one of the youth leaders.
Mr. Kumi, who represented Akwatia on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, was known for his humility, accessibility, and development-oriented leadership. His passing has left a deep void in the constituency.
Further funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days, but last night’s vigil clearly showed that Ernest Kumi’s memory will live on in the hearts of the people he served.
