A devastating fire swept through parts of the Job 600 building complex, which houses offices of Members of Parliament and staff, on Tuesday, August 27. The incident occurred around 9:45 am, disrupting committee sittings and other parliamentary business.
According to ACFO I Roberta Aggrey Ghanson, Greater Accra Fire Regional Commander, the fire originated from a storeroom on the 2nd floor of the building. Fortunately, all occupants were safely evacuated, and no casualties have been reported.
As a precautionary measure, all Members of Parliament and staff have been asked to go home, and parliamentary activities were suspended for the day. Six fire tenders have been deployed, and firefighters are working to fully extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) remains on-site to ensure the situation is fully resolved.
