Group Stands for Peace, Growth, and Development Commends OSP's Independence in Airbus Scandal Probe

Jh News - The Group Stands for Peace, Growth, and Development (GSPGD) applauds the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for its impartial investigation into the Airbus scandal, demonstrating unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law in Ghana.

On August 8, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng revealed that former President John Dramani Mahama was identified as 'Government Official 1' in UK court documents and 'Individual 1' in US filings. Despite this, the OSP found no evidence of corrupt activities or bribery by Mr. Mahama.

The Airbus scandal, dating back to Mahama's presidency, involved the procurement of military transport aircraft. Allegations of impropriety led to an investigation by former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu in 2020.

The OSP's conclusive report clarified that there is no evidence implicating Mr. Mahama in wrongdoing. The report emphasized that his involvement was driven by good intentions, with no indication of corrupt practices.

GSPGD commends the OSP for its dedication to independence, resisting external pressures, and ensuring an unbiased investigation. The organization urges Ghanaians to recognize and appreciate the Special Prosecutor's efforts in maintaining independence and resisting political pressures.

GSPGD also commends former President Mahama for his willingness to subject himself to the investigation, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and accountability. The group advises Mr. Mahama to prioritize patriotism in selecting individuals to serve in his administration, should he be entrusted with the mandate to govern.
