Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko SC have jointly announced the preparation of a comprehensive position paper aimed at presenting critical recommendations to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to enhance the Ghana Premier League.

In a strategic meeting held in Accra, representatives from Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) and members of Hearts of Oak’s Board and Management convened to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the league. The two iconic clubs, long-standing rivals on the pitch, emphasized their unified commitment to addressing challenges and advancing the sport in Ghana.

Central to their discussions was the urgent issue of security at league match venues. Both clubs have called for robust measures to protect fans and ensure their safety during games. This announcement precedes their scheduled meeting with the GFA’s Executive Committee on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

The clubs referenced the tragic death of Nana Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, as a sobering reminder of the need for enhanced safety protocols. Hearts of Oak extended their condolences to Kotoko and reaffirmed their resolve to work together, alongside other stakeholders, to prevent such incidents in the future. “This loss should not be in vain,” a Hearts of Oak representative stated.
