INTER-PARLIAMENTARY CONFERENCE ON FAMILY, SOVEREIGNTY AND VALUES: FOCUS WILL BE ON STRENGTHENING FAMILY SYSTEM

The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon.  Alban Sumana Bagbin has outlined key priorities for the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty and Values which is Coming on 3rd to 6th June 2026 in parliament describing the event as an important platform for African nations to deliberate on issues affecting families, culture, governance and emerging technologies.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Monday, 1st June 2926, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin announced that Parliament has suspended its regular sittings to facilitate the successful hosting of delegates from across Africa and other participating countries.

He stated that the conference will focus on protecting and strengthening African family systems, preserving cultural heritage and national sovereignty, enhancing the role of parliaments in safeguarding societal values, promoting youth leadership, and developing legislative responses to contemporary social challenges.

The Speaker noted that continental collaboration would be a central theme of the conference, with participating countries expected to explore collective approaches to addressing issues that directly affect families and societies across Africa.

Hon. Bagbin further revealed that a significant portion of the conference will be devoted to discussions on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. Delegates will assess the impact of technological advancement on family structures, child protection and social cohesion, while examining the need for ethical regulations, data privacy protections and responsible digital governance.
He emphasized the importance of balancing innovation with protection, stressing that Africa must leverage technology to advance education, healthcare and economic development while safeguarding citizens from potential digital risks.

The conference is expected to bring together lawmakers, policymakers and stakeholders to exchange ideas and formulate strategies aimed at promoting African values, strengthening families and shaping the continent's digital future.
