MP Petitions Over ‘Rambo-Style’ Arrests, Alleging Crackdown on Dissent
MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah has petitioned the international community, alleging that a series of high-profile arrests and raids under the NDC government amount to a coordinated assault on democracy and political dissent in Ghana.

JHNews || Accra, September 2025 — Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has petitioned the international community, warning that Ghana is “teetering on the edge of authoritarianism” under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
In a strongly worded letter titled “Petition on Rambo-Style Arrests & Unlawful Raids in Ghana,” Assafuah accuses security agencies of nighttime raids, arbitrary arrests, and political intimidation since January 2025.
The MP cites several incidents, including:
- A March 19 raid on the Roman Ridge home of former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison, where heavily armed officers allegedly disabled security cameras and searched the property.
- The February 11 home invasion of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, whom the Office of the Special Prosecutor later declared a fugitive while he was abroad for medical treatment.
- The arrests or harassment of several prominent figures such as Rev. Ntim Fordjour (MP), media host Katakyie Afrifa, activist Alfred Ababio Kumi (Adenta Kumi), NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Chairman Wontumi, and NPP Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC).
Assafuah argues that these incidents reflect “a deliberate strategy to silence opposition voices,” describing them as “political persecution designed to create a climate of fear.”
He urges foreign governments and international bodies to pressure the Ghanaian administration to respect the rule of law, protect fundamental freedoms, and end what he calls “unlawful raids and arbitrary arrests.”
