President Mahama suspends Chief Justice after setting up committee to probe petitions.

Accra, April 22, 2025 – President John Dramani Mahama has suspended the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, following the establishment of a prima facie case against her based on three separate petitions.
The President’s decision, in line with Article 146(6) of the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, comes after an initial assessment concluded that there was sufficient basis to proceed with a formal inquiry.
A five-member committee has been constituted to investigate the allegations. The members include:
- Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Justice of the Supreme Court – Chairman
- Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, Justice of the Supreme Court – Member
- Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Former Auditor-General – Member
- Major Flora Bazwaanuara Dalugo, Ghana Armed Forces – Member
- Professor James Sefah Dzisah, Associate Professor, University of Ghana – Member
In accordance with Article 146(10) of the Constitution and upon advice from the Council of State, President Mahama has issued a warrant suspending the Chief Justice with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the committee’s proceedings.
The announcement was made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and spokesperson to the President, through the Ministry of Government Communications.
