STATE OWNS EFUA SUTHERLAND CHILDREN’S PARK - LANDS MINISTER CONFIRMS

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has confirmed that the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra is state property.
He gave the confirmation in Parliament on Tuesday in response to a question filed by Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings had asked the Minister to state who owns the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park.
Answering on the floor of the House, Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah said records from the Lands Commission show the park is vested in the state.
“Mr. Speaker, the search at the Lands Commission indicates that the site, covering approximately 63 acres situated at Accra, is covered by a Certificate of Allocation dated 13th November 1959 in the name of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Housing, Horticultural Division, for Republic Parks and Children’s Playgrounds,” he stated.
“Therefore, the land belongs to the state.”
The Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, named after the renowned Ghanaian playwright and children’s advocate, has been a subject of public concern in recent years over encroachment and development pressures.
Today’s confirmation by the Minister settles, for now, questions about ownership of the 63-acre facility.
