Sports Levy Bill to Underpin New Sports Fund — Kofi Adams
JHNews || The Sports Ministry is gearing up to anchor Ghana’s next sports reform on a newly proposed Sports Levy. But beware — a future without passing that bill won’t bring a fund, just more promises.

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that once Parliament passes the proposed Sports Fund Levy Bill, a formal legislation will be developed to establish a dedicated Sports Fund.
Speaking at a ceremony where the University for Development Studies (UDS) presented its World University Games football trophy to President Mahama, Minister Adams stressed the necessity of a levy-backed fund to sustain Ghana’s sports sector. He explained that no functional fund can be created without a stable revenue base, which the levy will provide.
Adams disclosed that cabinet has already approved the proposal, and it will be submitted to Parliament when it reconvenes. He noted that the absence of a sports fund has long hindered federations and sporting development in the country.
According to MyJoyOnline, the proposed levy would serve as the primary revenue source for this new fund, with additional support expected from the Gaming Commission and other stakeholders. The plan is for the fund to become operational in 2026, contingent on parliamentary approval of the bill.
