Barcelona set to receive €8m payment from defender’s move to West Ham United
Barcelona are determined to raise funds this summer, as they keep trying to improve their financial situation. The €62m signing of Dani Olmo will be closed in the next 24 hours, and money is needed to balance the books – they will receive some from the impending sale of Julian Araujo, but more is needed.
The good news for Barcelona is that they will be receiving funds from Nice’s sale of Jean-Clair Todibo, for whom they have a 20% sell-on clause. As per Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United have agreed a deal for the French defender that is worth up to €40m.
However, it’s not confirmed yet, as Todibo has not given the green light for a deal to take place. He’s been prioritising a move to Juventus, but West Ham have now moved ahead in the race at this stage.
Furthermore, Barcelona would not receive the money now. West Ham’s deal for Todibo is an initial loan with an obligation to buy for €40m. The Catalans would receive €8m if it’s completed, but not until next summer.
