CAF’s stadium ban is a total embarrassment – Ghana legend Mohammed Polo

Former football icon Mohammed Polo has raised concerns about the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) stadium ban, saying it is a total embarrassment considering Ghana’s pedigree in football.

The continental football governing body has cracked the whip on Ghana, imposing a ban on the Baba Yara Stadium, the only venue currently approved for international matches in the country due to its "unsuitable playing field."

However, the Black Stars will not be unable to host the remaining 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches at home. The team will now have to play their home games at neutral venues on the continent.

Speaking on Bryt FM’s Wadwuma Ne Sen mid-morning show, the legendary Ghanaian footballer express his disappointment, describing the situation as a total embarrassment.

“It’s unfortunate that a football nation like Ghana can’t boast of a standard stadium to honour our home games. CAF’s ban is a total embarrassment. Why should this happen to Ghana” he quizzed.

The Black Stars are scheduled to face Sudan, coached by Kwesi Appiah, in a crucial doubleheader next month for the AFCON qualifiers.

Currently sitting third in Group F, the Black Stars will host Sudan at a yet-to-be-confirmed venue before travelling to Al-Merrikh Stadium for the return leg.

The upcoming games will be crucial for Otto Addo and his charges following a sloppy start to the qualifiers.
