Rashford's transfer to PSG has already 'been approved by player he'll replace'
Marcus Rashford's potential move to PSG has already been approved by the player he'll replace in France - new Real Madrid signing Kylian Mbappe.
The United forward was once thought of as an untouchable asset, but a recent drop in production has seen him fall further and further out of form, despite Erik ten Hag's encouragement.
Rashford failed to secure a place in Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad, and as a result, his name has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, specifically to PSG.
Mbappe left Les Parisiens in a blockbuster move to Champions League holders Real Madrid, and Rashford could be recruited to replace him. The French world-beater has previously praised the Red Devil and believes he could do a good job of filling his boots.
The two crossed paths in the 2019 Champions League. A Romelu Lukaku double and a 94th-minute dagger penalty from the Englishman were enough to overcome a 2-0 first-leg deficit and eliminate PSG.
Mbappe sung Rashford's praises post-match: "When you take a penalty in that situation, how much practice you have put on the training ground doesn’t matter.
"It’s about confidence," added the Frenchman. "He’s a player who plays with so much confidence. He’s one of the most dangerous forward players in England. Paul Pogba has spoken about how special he is – and he doesn’t talk about players in such a way often."
Rashford added ten Premier League goals to his tally that season and registered some impressive numbers. He scored 17 league goals in 2020 and 21 in all competitions the year after. A disappointing five goals during the 21/22 season can be attributed to a shoulder injury and illnesses.
On the back of a solid showing at the 2022 World Cup, he was expected to kick on under new boss Erik Ten Hag, and did, registering 30 goals in all competitions.
However, Rashford disappointed last campaign. He started 26 league games but only notched seven goals. With Rasmus Hojlund brought to lead the line, Rashford featured out wide with only the lacklustre Antony to challenge him - if a competent deputy was at the club, the 26-year-old's game time could've been further reduced.
Missing out on Euro 2024 and falling lower in Ten Hag's estimations has subsequently led to Rashford’s name swirling around the rumour mill this summer.
Though it is improbable the player will depart his boyhood club, PSG have the financial power to make the deal happen. The Red Devils have reportedly put a £70m-plus price tag on Rashford, who was subject to interest from the French outfit in 2022.
PSG have lost their global star and need a blockbuster new winger to replace him. With the departed Mbappe blessing the deal, Rashford could be the man to replace him, unlikely as it may seem.
