Subscribers of DStv in Ghana are set to enjoy significant upgrades in their packages following a deal brokered between the government and MultiChoice Ghana after weeks of tension over subscription prices.

From October 1, 2025, customers will see between 33% and 50% more value across all bouquets. Under the arrangement:

  • Customers on the Padi package (GH¢59) will automatically be upgraded to Access (GH¢99), gaining 35 extra channels.
  • Compact bouquet subscribers will move to Compact Plus, while Compact Plus customers will enjoy Premium services at no extra cost.
  • Those already on Premium will retain their package but will be entered into a draw with the chance to win trips to watch live Premier League matches abroad.

The announcement follows intense negotiations led by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George (MP), who had earlier warned of suspending MultiChoice’s license over high subscription fees. MultiChoice initially resisted a 30% price cut but eventually conceded to provide more value than government demanded.

In addition, the government revealed that it has subsidised DStv Zapper decoders and dish kits by about GH¢555, cutting their retail price by half to increase access for Ghanaian households.

Meanwhile, Sam George confirmed that nearly one million illegal “ghost boxes” and cross-border decoders, particularly those smuggled from Nigeria, have been deactivated in a bid to protect revenue, content creators, and broadcasting integrity in Ghana. He described the use of such devices as “unpatriotic” and warned of further action against piracy.

This resolution comes after weeks of standoff that saw the government threaten regulatory action if MultiChoice failed to comply with directives. With the new concessions, officials believe Ghanaian subscribers will enjoy unprecedented value and improved service.
