Ghana Tourism Authority’s Upper East Region Hosts Chocolate Day: Promoting healthy living and Culture

On February 14, 2025, the Upper East Region of Ghana came alive with the vibrant celebration of Chocolate Day, an annual event organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority in collaboration with local organizations. This year, the festivities took place at the Pediatric Unit of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, bringing joy and health awareness to the children and families in the community.

The choice of venue held special significance; by hosting the event at the hospital, organizers aimed to spread love and comfort to pediatric patients, celebrating the day of love Valentine’s Day with a focus on health and well-being. The theme for this year, “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana,” emphasized the dual role of chocolate as both a delightful treat and a symbol of care.

Mr. Wisdom K. Ahadzi, the Upper East Regional Director for the Ghana Tourism Authority, voiced the importance of tourism in promoting local culture and wellness. “This event is not just about chocolate; it’s about fostering a sense of community and highlighting the health benefits associated with it,” he stated during the opening remarks.

The day was filled with activities designed to engage attendees of all ages. Participants were encouraged to “Taste, Share, and Care,” creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and connection. Local chocolatiers showcased a variety of chocolate delicacies, while health professionals educated families on the nutritional benefits of chocolate.

The event not only delighted the senses but also underscored the cultural significance of chocolate in Ghana, where it is often associated with celebrations and community bonding.

As the festivities unfolded, laughter and joy permeated the hospital grounds. Families gathered to sample chocolates, share stories, and participate in games and activities designed for children. The event served as a reminder of the power of community support, especially for those facing health challenges.

Mr. Ahadzi emphasized, “Today is about more than just enjoying chocolate; it’s about bringing smiles to the faces of our children and reinforcing the importance of health in our lives.

The Upper East Regional Chocolate Day is now a cherished tradition, bridging the gap between tourism, health, and community spirit. As the sun set on this year’s celebration, participants left with full hearts and a renewed sense of connection both to each other and to the rich culture of Ghana.

With each passing year, the event promises to grow, highlighting the role of tourism in enhancing local experiences and promoting wellness. Through initiatives like these, the Ghana Tourism Authority continues to inspire both locals and visitors to discover the beauty and warmth of the Upper East Region.
