GPRTU Signals Possible Fare Hike Over Rising Costs
JHNews || GPRTU now admits fares may rise again as diesel and spare part prices surge — but VIP remains silent. Commuters shouldn’t pay the price for operators’ failure to cut fat when times were easier.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has publicly hinted at an impending transport fare increase, citing surging fuel prices and high spare part costs.
In remarks made on Eyewitness News, GPRTU’s Deputy PRO, Samuel Amoah, warned the union can no longer absorb the financial strain:
- He noted that when fares were cut by 15 %, diesel cost around GH₵12.59 per litre and petrol GH₵11.34.
- Today, diesel is about GH₵14.44, petrol GH₵13.69 — and spare parts remain expensive.
- He stressed that if fuel escalates further in the upcoming pricing window, a fare adjustment would become inevitable.
Amoah appealed to the government to step in and stabilize fuel pricing to prevent a ripple effect that would further burden commuters.
