Police Investigate Shooting Incident Involving Adwoa Safo as Conflicting Accounts Emerge

Accra, June 21, 2026 — The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, following a violent confrontation reportedly linked to an ongoing family and succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo movement.

According to police sources, the incident occurred at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region, where Adwoa Safo reportedly sustained a gunshot injury. The Madina Divisional Police Command has since commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all persons involved.

Initial reports indicate that the confrontation occurred amid growing tensions within the family of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group of Companies. The dispute is believed to be connected to succession and funeral arrangements following the industrialist’s passing in September 2025.

Adding a new twist to the controversy, a lawyer associated with the Kristo Asafo faction opposing Adwoa Safo’s position has publicly claimed that the former MP fired the first shot during the confrontation. The lawyer alleged that events leading to the exchange of gunfire began after tensions escalated among individuals gathered at the scene. These claims have not been independently verified by investigators.

Meanwhile, supporters of Adwoa Safo maintain that she was the victim of an attack and have called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances that led to her injury. Reports suggest she sustained an injury to her left ear during the incident and received medical attention.

The shooting has intensified public attention on the ongoing disagreements within the Kristo Asafo family, which have in recent months spilled into the public domain over issues relating to inheritance, leadership succession and funeral arrangements for the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

Police say investigations are ongoing and have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation until the facts are fully established.
