GTA Denies Replacing “Woezor” and “Akwaba” on Nkrumah Memorial Park Signage

Accra, August 27, 2025 – The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has dismissed social media claims suggesting that culturally significant greetings at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park have been replaced.
A post circulating on Instagram alleged that the inscriptions “Woezor” (Ewe) and “Akwaba” (Akan) had been removed and substituted with “Oobake” on signage at the refurbished park.
In a statement signed by Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, the Authority described the claims as false and unfounded.
“At no point has the Ghana Tourism Authority ordered or approved the replacement of the culturally significant greetings,” the statement stressed. It added that such changes could not be made without consultation or approval from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and other relevant agencies.
The GTA further clarified that it had “no knowledge” of the alleged change and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.
The statement concluded by encouraging Ghanaians and stakeholders to continue supporting the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park as a symbol of national pride and unity.
