KOD Foundation Donates Relief Items to Bluelight Market Fire Victims

The Keen on Development (KOD) Foundation, led by former NUGS President and CEO Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel, has donated 50 bags of cement and GH₵10,000 to support victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Bluelight Market in Kumasi.
During a visit to the affected market site on Thursday, Mr. Kyeremeh and his team toured the area to assess the damage and interact with traders grappling with the aftermath of the blaze.
The visit aimed to offer moral support and bring a message of hope to traders, many of whom had lost goods and structures in the fire. Addressing various trader unions and media representatives, Mr. Kyeremeh expressed his sympathy and encouraged the victims to remain hopeful.
“I’m here today to show that as a former student leader, I recognize the role your trading activities have played in our lives. It’s through your work that many of us have been able to pursue education,” he said. “We present these items to help you begin rebuilding.”
The donation was warmly received by the traders and market leaders. Bobie Ansah, President of the United Traders Association of Bluelight and former NUGS President, thanked the KOD Foundation for their timely intervention and described the gesture as both thoughtful and inspiring.
Mr. Ansah also urged other philanthropists and organizations to follow suit and support the affected traders.
However, Mr. Kyeremeh expressed concern over the security presence at the market, noting that the heavy deployment of police and military personnel could intimidate the already distressed traders. He called on the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to adopt more humane approaches in handling the situation.
“Let us avoid actions that will further traumatize the victims. These are law-abiding citizens trying to earn a living,” he said.
The donation by the KOD Foundation is one of the first major interventions since the fire incident and has brought some relief and hope to the affected community.
