MINORITY IN PARLIAMENT DISSATISFIED WITH MINISTERIAL APPOINTEES WHO APPEARED BEFORE APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE FOR VETTING

Jh News -The Minority in Parliament have raised concerns with the responses and assurances given by the some Ministerial appointees who appeared before the Appointments Committee on Monday.

Addressing journalists in parliament and speaking on behalf of the minority caucus Tano North legislator Dr Gideon Boako opined that the Minister designate for Finance Dr Cassiel Ato Forson appeared evasive, inconsistent and lacked clarity of thought throughout the vetting process.
His responses to questions on how Government intends on raising revenue after the intended tax cuts were uninspiring and raise suspicion as to whether additional taxes will be introduced instead.
Having previously served as Deputy Minister of Finance and as a ranking member of the Finance Committee, the Minority had high expectations for Hon. Ato Forson to provide forthright answers and concrete solutions.

However, his responses were deemed disappointing, particularly on key issues such as the government’s pledge to cover first-year tuition fees for tertiary students.
The Finance Minister Designate's inability to confirm whether this promise would be honoured according to the Minority is a betrayal to parents and young Ghanaian students.

The Minority also raised concerns about Hon Forson’s commitment to scrapping certain taxes, including the betting tax, E-levy, COVID levy and emissions tax.

The minority in parliament further touched on the Energy Minister Designate John Jinapor’s dissonant answers on the current power crisis after he had made comments suggesting the country could be facing power crisis due to the inadequacy of fuel left behind by the past administration.
