MINORITY TO PUSH FOR AD-HOC COMMITTEE TO PROBE DRUG TRAFFICKING - REV. HON. NTIM FORDJOUR

The Minority in Parliament has served notice it will request an emergency sitting to probe Ghana's growing links to international drug trafficking.

The Ranking Member on Parliament's Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, said this during a press conference, he said request has been laid before the House through Hon. Habib Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tolon and First Deputy Minority Whip.

According to him, the motion seeks to establish an Ad-Hoc Committee under Article 103 of the Constitution and Order 262 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

He said among other things, the Committee will examine how each consignment was assembled, inspected and cleared, and why scanning and risk profiling failed.

It will also examine the role of every agency, shipping line, freight forwarder and clearing agent that handled the cargoes.

Hon. Fordjour added that the Committee will examine whether the financiers and organisers are being pursued and their proceeds traced under Acts 1019 and 1044.

It will also look into the actions and possible complicity of state agencies and recommend reforms to close the gaps permanently.
