Parliament Declares Kpandai Seat Vacant, Notifies EC Ahead of Court-Ordered Rerun
JHNews || Parliament has declared the Kpandai seat vacant and notified the EC to conduct a rerun following a court ruling that annulled the 2024 election results. The EC will now set a new date as political parties prepare for another competitive contest.
Accra, 9 December 2025 — Parliament has officially declared the Kpandai Constituency seat vacant and has notified the Electoral Commission (EC) to initiate processes for a rerun of the parliamentary election, following a High Court ruling that annulled the 2024 results.
The notification, issued by the Clerk to Parliament, follows a court directive ordering a fresh election after finding irregularities significant enough to affect the final outcome. The ruling voided the previous declaration and mandated the EC to conduct a rerun to ensure a credible process.
With the seat now formally vacant, the EC is expected to announce a date and guidelines for the rerun in the coming days. Political parties are already preparing to re-enter the contest, with heightened attention on Kpandai given its influence in the current parliamentary balance.
The rerun is expected to be closely monitored by civil society groups, election observers, and security agencies to prevent a repeat of procedural disputes.
