President Mahama Launches Ambitious One Million Coders Programme in Ghana

Accra, Ghana — Former President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the One Million Coders Programme, a nationwide digital initiative aimed at equipping one million Ghanaians with essential digital skills over the next four years.

The programme kicked off with 560 trainees across four major cities and focuses on key areas such as coding, cybersecurity, and data analytics — all critical components for advancing Ghana’s growing digital economy.

The launch event, held at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, marks a significant step in preparing Ghana’s youth for the rapidly evolving global tech job market. The programme is already drawing significant attention, with more than 90,000 applications submitted shortly after its announcement — a strong indicator of public enthusiasm and demand for digital education.

The initiative is being widely viewed as a transformative effort to bridge the digital skills gap in Ghana and position the country as a competitive player in the global digital space.
