Slot urged to sign ex-Man City star to replace Salah as private feelings emerge
Liverpool have been tipped to pursue Leroy Sane if they need a replacement for Mohamed Salah - whose future continues to be uncertain._
Arne Slot is just through the door at Anfield but is yet to conduct any transfer window as he casts an eye over his squad. Salah has entered the final year of his deal and 12 months ago there was interest from the Saudi Pro League, who still want to lure the Egyptian.
Liverpool could still command a huge fee from the forward, who has been their top scorer every years he's been at the club. Eventually though they will have to plan for life without him and ex-Premier League winger Jermaine Pennant believes Sane is the ideal man to come in and fill the void.
The German is a two-time league winner in England having excelled during his time at Manchester City, before eventually returning to his homeland. Sane has continued to showcase moments of brilliance and has been identified as a key signing.
Pennant told Coin Poker : “You need someone with experience to replace Mohamed Salah, like Leroy Sane. For me, that would be a great signing, he has pace, he cuts in on his right or left. When he played at the Emirates he was absolutely unreal, he tore Arsenal apart. So if he can do that to Arsenal at the Emirates, he’d be an amazing signing. He knows the Premier League with City.”
Sane has plenty of competition at Bayern with the likes of Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman also in the club's ranks, meaning he isn't always guaranteed a start. The German has previously scored some notable goals against Liverpool, including the winner in a titanic tussle back in 2019.
Salah though has shown no desire to leave this summer, although holding onto him in his current situation means the Reds risk losing him for nothing. In the early days of the Slot era though Salah appeared positive about the new manager.
Adrian, who has just left the club, told The Athletic : “I speak almost every day with many of the squad — Kostas Tsimikas, Mo Salah. They tell me they like it, the ideology is the same as with Jurgen. To be intense, direct, play with pace, press high, be brave. Liverpool’s squad is made for that. So the new coach will know how to adapt well to the players he has. And I wish him the best.”
The Reds have a host of forwards in their ranks and at least one is tipped to move on sooner rather than later. Salah has commanded a starting berth but Slot also had Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo all at his disposal.
