The Supreme Court is today set to hear an application challenging the decision of the Tamale High Court to annul the 2024 parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency.

The application was filed by the Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam, who is seeking a judicial review to quash the High Court’s ruling that nullified the December 7, 2024 parliamentary election results. The annulment followed an election petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.

Mr. Nyindam argues that the Tamale High Court erred in law by assuming jurisdiction over the election petition, insisting that the processes leading to the judgment were invalid. He is therefore asking the Supreme Court to set aside the judgment and all consequential orders arising from it.

In the meantime, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has applied for a stay of execution to prevent the Electoral Commission and the NDC from acting on the High Court’s decision, pending the final determination of the matter by the Supreme Court.

The outcome of today’s hearing is expected to have significant implications for the Kpandai constituency and the ongoing political developments surrounding the disputed parliamentary seat.
