Upper East Regional Commander Commissions Police Post in Zorkor

On Sunday, February 9, 2025, the Upper East Regional Police Commander, D.C.O. Raymond Adomfiem, officially commissioned a police post aimed at enhancing community security in Zorkor, a suburb of the Bongo District.

During the commissioning ceremony, Commander Adomfiem urged the community to adopt a supportive attitude towards the police personnel who will be stationed at the new facility. He emphasized that these officers are dedicated individuals who have chosen to serve the community, and they deserve respect in their duties.

“I struggle to retain personnel in this region due to the community’s attitude towards them. Even local officers hesitate to come here, while those from other regions bravely accept the challenge despite being unfamiliar with our climate, food, and language. Unfortunately, when they make minor mistakes, they face undue criticism,” he stated.

He also advised the community to limit the types of issues reported to the police, clarifying that the officers are not from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and are not there to mediate family disputes. Their primary focus is to combat crime and enhance security against violent extremism.

Additionally, the Commander pledged to provide a motorbike and a horse to assist the police in patrolling and effectively performing their duties.

Expressing the community’s gratitude, Naba Victor Adindaa, the Chief of Kodorogo and leader of the Zorkor Council of Chiefs, thanked God, their ancestors, and the Upper East Regional Commander for making their long-held dream a reality. He prayed for blessings upon the Commander for his commitment to regional peace and security.

“I assure you that the people of Zorkor will not disappoint your officers; we will live and work together in peace and unity,” he affirmed.

Hon. Alexis Ayamdoo Azitariga, the former District Chief Executive for Bongo and former Assemblyman for the Kanga Electoral Area, recounted that construction of the police facility began in 2012 and was completed in 2013 during his tenure as Assemblyman. However, it remained unfurnished and under-equipped until 2015-2016, when he secured some furniture while serving as the District Chief Executive. He noted that progress stalled after a new government took over.

He assured the Commander that land issues had been resolved, as the landowners were compensated with GH₵1,000. “We promised the landowners that they would be prioritized for any employment opportunities at the facility, recognizing that no amount of money can equate to the value of the land they have generously provided for the community’s benefit,” he added.

In a gesture of appreciation, the community presented the Commander with a ram and a cock to express their heartfelt gratitude for his efforts.
