GoldBod has partnered with the Ghana Armed Forces and the Forestry Commission to launch a nationwide land reclamation programme, beginning with the restoration of 50 hectares in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.
Accra, Ghana — The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has partnered with the Ghana Armed Forces and the Forestry Commission to launch a national land reclamation initiative aimed at restoring degraded lands affected by mining activities across the country.
The project will begin with the restoration of 50 hectares of land within the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve, marking the first phase of a broader environmental sustainability programme.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to environmental protection and responsible mining practices through its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
According to him, the partnership reflects GoldBod’s determination to ensure that Ghana’s natural resources are exploited responsibly while mitigating the environmental impact of mining activities.
Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, underscored the importance of collaboration among state institutions in protecting the country’s natural resources and restoring degraded landscapes for future generations.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Dr. Hugh Brown, also emphasized the need to reclaim damaged forest lands and strengthen conservation efforts to preserve Ghana’s forest ecosystems and biodiversity.
The initiative forms part of broader national efforts to promote responsible mining, combat environmental degradation, and restore forest reserves affected by illegal mining and other destructive activities.
