Chief of Staff Revoked Post–December 7 Appointments Affecting About 30,000 Public Servants
On February 10, 2025, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Julius Debrah, issued a directive revoking appointments and recruitments made in the Public Services of Ghana after December 7, 2024.
In a letter addressed to all Heads of Government Institutions, the Presidency stated that the appointments were not in compliance with established good governance practices in relation to near end-of-tenure recruitment processes. The directive instructed institutional heads to take immediate steps to annul the affected appointments and submit a comprehensive report on actions taken by February 17, 2025.
The decision reportedly impacted approximately 30,000 public sector workers across various institutions. Reports at the time indicated that some of the affected employees had already been in service for periods ranging from one to eight years, despite having gone through formal recruitment procedures.
The move generated significant public reaction, with concerns raised over job security, due process, and the broader implications for public sector employment in Ghana.
