Ghana Tourism Authority Launches Heritage Month 2025 with Exciting Cultural and Tourism Events

Accra, March 3, 2025 – The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, has officially launched Heritage Month 2025 at Labadi Beach Hotel. This year’s celebration, themed around Ghana’s rich history, cultural heritage, and creative economy, aligns with Independence Day and aims to promote domestic tourism and national identity.
Embracing Ghanaian Culture and Identity
Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of GTA, highlighted the importance of heritage in shaping national identity, quoting Pan-Africanist Marcus Garvey: “A people without the knowledge of their past, history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.”
She emphasized The Black Star Experience, an initiative to promote year-round tourism beyond the peak December season, encouraging both locals and the diaspora to engage with Ghana’s heritage.
As part of the celebrations, Ghanaians are encouraged to:
✅ Wear Made-in-Ghana outfits to support the local textile industry.
✅ Play at least 70% Ghanaian music throughout March.
✅ Support local businesses through food festivals and tourism promotions.
✅ Explore Ghana’s 16 regions to experience the country’s diverse cultures.
Key Cultural and Tourism Events in March 2025
1. Cultural Conversation on Ghanaian Customs and Traditions
Date: 15th March 2025
Time: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Venue: Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

- Discussion on the history of the Ghan people and their influence on tourism and the creative economy.
- Insights from GTA representatives, historians, and cultural industry experts.

2. Gobe Festival
Date: 22nd March 2025
Venue: Lake Gonne City Mall (Opposite University of Ghana)

Focus:
- Celebration of Gobe (beans delicacy), a once humble dish that has gained widespread popularity.
- Vendors showcasing various modern adaptations with toppings like onions, tomatoes, eggs, and avocado.
- A vibrant culinary experience highlighting the growth of Ghanaian cuisine.
3. Back to Your Village Festival
Date: 29th – 30th March 2025
Venue: Forecourt of Accra Metropolitan Assembly
Organizer: City FM and Channel One
Focus:
- A festival celebrating traditional Ghanaian meals and cooking techniques.
- Attendees will experience cuisines from various ethnic groups, including Dangbes, Fantis, Gonges, Ashantis, and Akyems.
- A showcase of Ghana’s rich cultural diversity and heritage through food.
4. Nationwide Cultural Engagements
- All 16 regional offices in Ghana will collaborate with district, municipal, and metropolitan assemblies to:
✔ Engage vendors and industry stakeholders.
✔ Increase awareness of Ghanaian culture and heritage.
✔ Encourage national participation in cultural celebrations.
A Month of Unity, Culture, and Pride
As part of Heritage Month, the Ghana Tourism Authority will also host a Food and Cultural Fair on March 14, 2025, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. The fair will highlight Ghanaian indigenous cuisine, in collaboration with chefs’ associations and traditional caterers.
Hon. Mami Fahoudjotou concluded the launch by calling on Ghanaians and the diaspora to embrace their heritage: “Let us celebrate our past, embrace our present, and build a future that honors our ancestors. Together, let’s build the Ghana we want!”
