NPP Directs Members to Halt Media Discussions on Internal Party Disputes

Accra, Ghana — The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a directive urging its members to refrain from airing grievances or internal conflicts in public forums, following the party’s defeat in Ghana’s recent elections. The order, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, emphasizes unity and discipline amid post-election tensions.

In a statement released from its Accra-North headquarters, the NPP acknowledged the “disappointment and emotional distress” caused by the electoral loss. While recognizing members’ frustrations, the party called for calm, stressing that “cooler heads must prevail” to stabilize internal operations.

Citing Article 10(7)(5) of its constitution, which grants authority to coordinate party activities, the NPP mandated an immediate end to media discussions that foster “unrest, negativism, and disaffection.” The directive also referenced Article 3(5), requiring members to “promote and defend the good name of the Party.”

Violators will face disciplinary action, with the National, Regional, and Constituency leadership tasked with reporting offenders to relevant committees. The move aims to curb public infighting as the party seeks to rebuild.

“Let us uphold the values of the NPP and work together to forge a stronger future,” Frimpong stated, reiterating the party’s motto: "Development in Freedom.”

The directive follows weeks of internal criticism over the NPP’s electoral strategy and leadership, sparking concerns about factionalism. Analysts view the order as an effort to consolidate control ahead of future political contests.
