Speaking to the media at the ongoing “Yen Suro Ahunahuna” demonstration by the NPP, he stressed that the party is disappointed with how the police are treating them, stating that the implementation of the law toward party members is not fair.

“We are not happy about the discriminatory and differential treatment or application of the law by the police. We are also not happy with the high-handedness that we see in the process of applying the law.”

He urged the police force to prioritize integrity over blind directives from those at the helm of affairs.

“We are here to let the police know that it is better to be professional than to take instructions from a politician. A politician will have an expiry date, but your professionalism will stay forever.”

Commenting on the issue of derogatory statements in politics, he noted that no matter how provocative a statement is, it still doesn’t authorize criminal prosecution, stressing that the government should instead use due legal processes.

“A message or talk, no matter how inflammatory, does not warrant criminal procedure or application of the law. We believe that if someone talks in a way which is not correct, at least take them through civil procedure, let the judge hear them, let them come with a lawyer. If they are guilty, fine them or find a way to make sure that they become responsible.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is currently embarking on a demonstration dubbed “Yen Suro Ahunahuna,” which aims to send a strong message against what they describe as intimidation, political harassment, and injustice by the NDC government.
