President Mahama Orders Investigations Into NSS Ghost Names Scandal After Clearance of Arreas

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to probe the National Service Scheme (NSS) "ghost names" scandal, following the discovery of 81,885 suspected ghost names on the payroll. This directive comes after the Ministry of Finance released GHS 226,019,224 to cover allowance payment arrears for 98,145 actual National Service personnel, which is 81,885 less than the 180,030 names presented by the previous management of the Authority for allowance payment in 2024.

The investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the ghost names and hold those responsible accountable. President Mahama has also tasked the new management of the NSS to carry out urgent reforms to establish adequate controls and prevent a recurrence of the phenomenon.

The NSS ghost names scandal has raised concerns about corruption and mismanagement of public funds. The investigation is expected to provide transparency and accountability, ensuring that those involved are brought to justice.
