The deceased have been identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, 3, Saani Alsharaf, 5, and Dauda Fadilan, 7.

According to the Police, the children left home at about 8:00am on Sunday, October 4, 2026, to attend Islamic classes but failed to return home.

After unsuccessful efforts by community members to locate them, their bodies were discovered at about 5:00am on Monday, October 5, inside the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14.

Police said the vehicle was found stuck in mud on a road leading to the area. A preliminary inspection showed that the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.

Vehicle owner arrested

Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle belongs to a personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service, who reportedly told investigators that the vehicle had been stuck in the mud for about five days.

The vehicle owner has since been arrested and taken to Accra to assist with the investigation.

The Inspector General of Police has also deployed a special team comprising homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to support the Northern Regional Police Command.

The vehicle has been secured for further forensic examination, while an autopsy is expected to provide additional information on the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths. Police have not yet disclosed the cause of death.

The Northern Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue and assured residents that further updates will be provided.
