AFRICAN UNION COMMISSION HOLDS OFFICIAL HANDOVER CEREMONY FOR NEWLY ELECTED COMMISSIONERS
The African Union Commission inaugurated a new administrative team during an official handover ceremony held on 13th March, 2025, at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
The event signified the transition from the outgoing Commissioners to the newly elected Commissioners, including Ambassador Amma Adomaa Twum-Amoah, following their election during the 38th Session of the AU Assembly in February 2025.
Dignitaries in attendance included the H.E.Joӑo Manuel Gonҫalves Lourenҫo, President of Angola and Chairperson of the African Union, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Taye Atske Selassie and members of the diplomatic corps.
In his farewell address, the outgoing Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, highlighted the Commission’s achievements and challenges during his tenure. His successor, Mohamed Ali Yusuf, acknowledged the progress made and pledged to build on these successes to advance Africa’s development agenda.
Ambassador Amma Adomaa Twum-Amoah, was sworn in as the Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development.
She is a career diplomat and former Ambassador of Ghana to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia South Sudan and Permanent Representative to the African Union .
The ceremony underscored the AU’s ongoing commitment to ensure unity, peace, and sustainable development across Africa.
