The Ministry of Youth and Sports maintains that the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) directly received $2.5 million and provided instructions for third-party recipients to receive the remaining $1 million - Sports Ministry

Jh News - The Ministry of Youth and Sports has issued a clarification regarding the payment made to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for their services as the official broadcaster of the 2023 All African Games in Accra. According to the Ministry, a total of $3.6 million was agreed upon, with $2.5 million paid directly to GBC in two installments. The remaining $1 million was paid to third-party providers as instructed by GBC, in line with their contractual obligations.

This clarification comes after GBC's Director General, Professor Amin Alhassan, stated that the corporation received only $105,000 for their coverage of the Games. However, the Ministry maintains that GBC was the primary entity engaged for broadcasting services and that third-party providers were contracted by GBC, not the Ministry.

The Ministry's statement aims to address the discrepancy in the amounts reported, with Minister Mustapha Ussif having earlier disclosed in Parliament that GBC was paid in excess of $3 million. Professor Alhassan has since clarified that GBC's role was limited to supervising technical production teams and that the corporation did not have the equipment to produce the Games, leading to the outsourcing of technical production to three other organizations.
