Speaking on Citi Tv's BreakfastDaily, he admitted illegal mining in the country is a major problem and that the government tackling it using various measures legitimately.

He mentioned that the government understands and value the concerns raised by Ghanaians with regards to the urgency in resolving the issue, but the last thing the government will resort to is taking advice from the opposition party NPP that couldn't tackle the issue during the eight years of their administration.

''Yes galamsey is a challenge, this government is fighting it in a way that we feel is sustainable and we respect the views of the Ghanaian people and we can understand their desire for a haste when it comes to that fight. But I assure you, one thing we will not take is lessons from the New Patriotic Party that for eight years failed to deal with the galamsey menace''.

He noted that the government has pledged to tackle illegal mining and that the only way the people of Ghana can evaluate the new government with regards to the fight agaianst galamsey is at the end of their four year mandate and not eight months into their administration.

''We have a four year mandate, and by the end of that mandate, Ghanaians will be able to assess our handling of the galamsey situation. It is not under eight months. That point needs to be made. And we are committed to resolving it''.
